The division performs more than half a million tests per year, which accounts for about 40 percent of the testing volume of the SSL

Clinical Pathology

The purpose of clinical pathology is to identify the cause of uneasiness in the human body.

The clinical pathology division at SSL provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art urine routine analysis service using Artificial Intelligence based fully automated analyzer, in addition to urine gram stain and other body fluid analysis by manual method. This division also offers consultation on test interpretation by panel of doctoral scientists.

Andrology

Artificial intelligence-based CASA device

Infertility is defined as the inability to achieve a clinical pregnancy following one year of regular and timed intercourse without contraception. It is estimated that infertility affects approximately 15% of couples globally, where 50% of these cases are due to male infertility factors. For the clinical investigation of the male partner’s fertility potential, the standard semen analysis based on WHO guidelines is considered the first line. These guidelines provide laboratory procedures and reference thresholds for each semen parameter.

In an attempt to standardize the semen analysis as per WHO guidelines, the andrology division at SSL adopts Artificial Intelligence-based CASA device which is an image processing system equipped with a microscope and camera to analysis the semen. Semen analysis reported by AI based CASA method have more superior accuracy and quality compared to typical manual methods, which is prone to operator subjectivity, human error and intra-operator variability for each semen parameters including sperm concentration, motility, vitality, morphology and DNA fragmentation.

This is a highlight of SSL to prove that we are pioneers in adopting global standards and implement recent technological advancements in its process for the betterment of its customers.

The following parameters are analysed using our AI based CASA Method:

Mobility Analysis

✓ Sperm Average Speed of Curvilinear Motion
✓ Sperm Average Point-to-Point Speed
✓ Sperm Average Speed of Route Motion
✓ Velocity distribution of Sperms
✓ Detecting the total number of Sperms
✓ Percentage of Sperm Density
✓ Fraction surviving of the Sperms
✓ Side-sway amplitude of sperms
✓ Sperms Oscillation
✓ Sperms forwardness
✓ Sperms linear quality
✓ Whipping frequency of sperms motion
✓ Sperms average parallel-motion angle

Vitality Analysis

✓ Live Sperm Count
✓ Dead Sperm Count

Morphology Analysis

✓ Head Morphology & Pathology
✓ Neck Morphology & Pathology
✓ Tail Morphology & Pathology

DNA Fragmentation Analysis

✓ Big Halo
✓ Medium Halo
✓ Small Halo
✓ Without Halo
✓ Degraded

Molecular Biology

SSL is home to a centre for excellence in Molecular Biology. We started our molecular biology division primarily with the focus on SARS-Covid-19 testing using fully automated DNA/RNA extraction and world leading PCR equipments.

Recent development in public awareness of the relationship between genetics and personal health has increased the demand for molecular genetic testing so as we have now focused towards infectious diseases, syndrome panels, prenatal and pre-implantation diagnosis, risk assessment for familial cancer, congenital and inherited cancer syndromes, hematologic malignancies and genetic abnormalities associated with hereditary bleeding and clotting disorders.

Haematology & Coagulation

The Division of Haematology at SSL provides haematology and thrombosis testing services.

This division serves patients through optimal testing and interpreting results to provide accurate diagnoses and relevant prognostic information. Tests are used to detect a broad gamut of hematologic diseases including, but not limited to Lymphomas, Leukaemia, Plasma Cell Dyscrasias, Hemoglobinopathies, Red Blood Cell Enzyme Deficiencies, Bleeding Diatheses and Hypercoagulable States.

More than 50 laboratory professionals perform the full range of testing approaches, from Traditional Microscopy to Molecular and Flow Cytometric Analyses.

Tests covered under this division includes:

Metabolic Haematology detects abnormal haemoglobins (e.g., sickle cell disease), red blood cell enzyme deficiencies (e.g., G-6-PD) and cytoskeletal abnormalities (e.g., hereditary spherocytosis) and also screens for and characterizes thalassemia.

Haematopathology Morphology performs complete blood counts (CBC) and analyses cellular morphology in peripheral blood and some body fluids. The laboratory also performs a wide range of cytochemical stains.

Special Coagulation performs testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients who may have bleeding or clotting disorders.

Clinical Microbiology & Serology

The internationally equipped Clinical Microbiology Laboratories at Sri Samraj Labs, offer reference and development expertise in all areas of conventional and Molecular Medical Microbiology. The labs offer a broad selection of tests to rapidly identify and characterize causative agents of infectious diseases in great depth.

Sri Samraj Labs have implemented culture techniques, immunoassays, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and molecular methods to rapidly detect, identify and characterize microbial pathogens as well as provide guidance for their treatment.

Microbiology Consultants at Sri Samraj Labs perform thousands of tests each year for the following parameters:

  • Bacteriology
  • Virology
  • Parasitology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Serology
  • Hepatitis and HIV
  • Mycology and Mycobacteriology
  • Initial Processing and Media Preparation
  • Culture Automation

Emergency Care / POC Service

Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Analysis Using Portable ABG Analyzer

An emergency care division at SSL is equipped with a portable, battery-powered blood gas analyser to determine pH, pCO2, pO2, sodium, potassium, lactate and ionized calcium within minutes from arterial blood of patients in life threatening conditions in emergency departments or intensive care units, to conclude about patient’s oxygenation, carbon dioxide and acid-base regulation and also enables physicians to correct hypokalaemia or hypocalcaemia in cases of cardiac failure or malignant arrhythmia. Thus, ABG analysis by SSL as a Point of Care Test (POC) plays a significant role in detecting impending respiratory failures, need for oxygen therapy and ventilator care in emergency room itself, so that normal homeostasis can be resumed and the organ function recovers fast.

The ABG test can be prescribed in the following health conditions:

➢ Collapse of unknown cause
➢ Respiratory distress – hypoxia
➢ Titration of artificial ventilation
➢ Altered level of consciousness
➢ Poisons/toxin ingestion
➢ Metabolic disorders – diabetic ketoacidosis
➢ Trauma-management of raised intracranial pressure
➢ Shocked patient – sepsis, cardiogenic
➢ Evaluation of intervention – fluid resuscitation
➢ Inotropic therapy
